Make of the Week – Sleeveless wool cowl neck

Sleeveless wool cowl neck

I was playing with a new design this week – it is relatively simple, but really effective. I took inspiration from an old Knitwit pattern from my mum’s stash of 70’s and 80’s patterns. I have had this fabric for about 18 months now and have been struggling to visualise it in a design. I wanted to make sure I honoured the fabric and the fabric pattern. It is a lightweight wool, so I wanted to be able to wear it in Winter, but felt too much of it would be overwhelming. To find a co-ordinating fabric was tricky as it has to be spot on with colour and weight.

I decided on a sleeveless cowl neck to wear over a basic thermal.

I have not tried the big cowl neck before and was amazed at how simple it really is. I used a basic curve stitch for the sleeve and waist hems to coo-ordinate with the swirls of the fabric pattern. It is simple, easy but really effective. I will definitely be using this design again.

  1. I love this Robyn! It looks fabulous – and as you said, just the right amount of the fabric – perfect! PS – your hair is looking fabulous too!
